Malibu Diner, Chelsea

This was a regular dine 'n' bash locale with my colleagues when I worked in the neighborhood. If someone said "Let's go to the 'Bu," he or she really meant "Time for a bitch-fest."

I hadn't been there in a long time. It seems cleaner than I remember it. Since I'm trying to count Weight Watcher points, watch my cholesterol, avoid allergy triggers and foods that totally gross me out like ground beef, most of the menu was off limits. My choices: Chicken orzo soup (sweet and salty broth with gummy pasta and tasteless celery and carrots, but nice chunks of tender, white chicken, go figure) and green salad (leaf lettuce, cucumber, pinkish tomatoes, what could have been an entire sliced red onion; bland, unidentifiable creamy dressing on the side -- the lack of flavor kept me from delving too heavily into something I had no business eating anyway).

Pluses: The aforementioned cleanliness, very good and very friendly service, a neighborhood atmosphere, budget prices, memories of bash-a-thons past.

Would I go again? Maybe, if I was in the neighborhood, was in a hurry, on a budget and eager to get in from the cold, just like yesterday.
